Volcano Extravaganza, I Polpi

Tre passioni. In quattro giorni. Fra Napoli e Stromboli.

Il festival è una delle poche occasioni rimaste in cui si può fare esperienza d'insieme senza che ci debbano essere implicazioni sentimentali. Solo un gruppo di persone unite da passioni comuni. Che siano libri, musica o arte. Questo festival, Volcano Extravaganza, presentato dal Fiorucci Art Trust in partnership con The Vinyl Factory di Londra e curato da Milovan Farronato, le comprende tutte e tre. Tre passioni. In quattro giorni. Fra Napoli e Stromboli. Il festival mescola varie discipline e le fa muovere all'unisono. I personaggi coinvolti sono un artistic leader, Eddie Peake, musicisti come l’electronic producer Actress e Gwilym Gold, gli artisti interdisciplinari Evan Ifekoya con Victoria Sin, e la poetessa Holly Pester. In aggiunta, il rumore del mare. E dei due vulcani. Il Vesuvio e Iddu. Quest'anno il festival si chiama I Polpi. Polpi che si muovono in varie direzioni, senza sosta, fluidi come il loro elemento, a ritmo delle onde. Come la performance To Corpse di Peake, reinterpretata in cinque variazioni da 20 minuti ciascuna. In luoghi diversi, con accompagnamenti sonori diversi. Le prime tre variazioni sulla terraferma. Dal cortile interno del museo MADRE con i ballerini vestiti di bianco a Le Scalze - Chiesa di San Giuseppe a Pontecorvo con i ballerini in tutine nere, fino alla terza variazione interpretata dalla poetessa al tramonto, tra effluvi e vapori, nel cratere vulcanico della Solfatara, a Pozzuoli, con i ballerini in rosso. Bianco, nero e rosso. La pelle si scuote, cambia forma, si adatta. Esotismo e frenesia. Spaesamento. To Corpse prevede fasi d’intensità alterna, un crescendo esplosivo che improvvisamente si blocca, si rilassa, per riprendere con le contorsioni poco dopo, movimenti di passaggio, da una forma all’altra. A Napoli anche Gli Animali, una nuova versione della performance di Peake Touch (2012) a Casa Morra: una partita di calcetto con giocatori locali nudi. È finita 7 a 7. Poi, ancora insieme, hanno tutti attraversato il mare a bordo di un aliscafo SNAV. Sulla barca si è svolta Fox (concepita da Peake assieme a Sam Hacking nel 2005) con performer mascherati da volpe. Finalmente l'isola. Quarta variazione a mezzanotte al Megà. Adesso i ballerini sono nudi, spogliati, con i corpi dipinti di bronzo.  L'ultima variazione al sorgere del sole, sulla spiaggia, con la colonna sonora del rumore naturale di Stromboli. I ballerini sono nudi, senza nemmeno il corpo dipinto. Solo pelle, sassi e mare. L'isola dissolve ogni costume e l'uomo torna ad essere selvaggio, primitivo. Peake, alla fine del festival, lascia due murales. Fruit: cerchi concentrici colorati, scarabocchi riccioli con scritte dentro che contornano porte e finestre, su pareti bianche. E Shadows, una lunga scritta bianca su fondo rosso che si srotola sopra un muro che costeggia una piccola stradina di campagna, immersa nel verde.
