The highlight of the night was a fashion show curated by Carine Roitfeld starring Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Karolina Kurkova.

Margherita is the name of the first queen of Italy, is the name of a piece of bread covered by red, white and basil, it’s the name of the simplest flower, the title of a song that says we need to paint the walls in colors. Margherita wants colors. Margherita is the name of my muse.

Anaïs Nin, Doris Duke, Patty Pravo, and surely Madame de Staël. No white, anywhere. Primroses and cookies, silver wattles. Lady Oscar and Ludwig, by Visconti. La Tulipe Noire. The Queen ordered to have all the black roses of Saint Fois gathered, to defeat a challenging duchess. Lilies are better dressed than any of King Solomon’s golden cloak. The poison of the oleander.

The butterflies by Damien Hirst are the rose windows of Reims. Italy, Italy- Sanremo is the music contest of flowers, the songs, the old Italy – rome will be back as a power city, soon.

A movie by Ozpetek. Margherita said: «Quiet people are those who save photographic albums, who like white because they say white is simple and never bores». Margherita bit an apple: «We like unquiet people. We like those people who look at themselves in the mirror because they know that is the best thing they could ever find. We like unquiet people when they lose themselves searching for the sun at noon, on a bright day. We like those who are not able to understand themselves, but they can understand every ignorant fairy». Confusion – disorder is that energy that makes the ice melt away, that makes the sun rays so we can be warm. We live to die. The eternal incongruity. Like flowers that were born to fall – every summer, crumbled by the nostalgia of September.

No combinations – colors must be used and mixed, never coordinated.

The bourgeois is no longer the exponent of a social class. Today the bourgeois is that one who wants to be part of a group, to feel normal, to feel okay because he is like the others. Yves Saint Laurent hated the bourgeois, hated their sense of humor and their strictness. I write this now because this means talking about flowers. Flowers are new ideas. Ideas to give, to create new jobs and new possibilities – to be more committed, to be better performing – studying more, trying more, working, working more – for the others and for Italy. They are buying everything, taking everything away, from Italy – it really seems as if we are not good enough, not brave enough.

The designer uses her favorite chic materials again such as lace which she contrasts with the more casual A.P.C. style. A predominantly beige and black collection featuring a subtle red touch provided by the “Wave Woman” prints, designed in collaboration with the American artist based in Paris Jason Glasser.

Work of the mesh, contrasting materials, subtle feminine cuts … The world of A.P.C. therefore offers a sensual breath with Vanessa Seward for autumn-winter 2013/2014.

The choice in location for this fashion show was yet another step further into the long and friendly relationship that exists between the maison and Monaco.

Sonia was born in Los Angeles but she really stands out from the LA scene, she’s one-of-a-kind and so is her jewelry. Her uniqueness comes from her desire to widen her horizons that brought her to Antwerp, Belgium where she studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Sonia said, “I studied there for a short time, But worked there for longer. It was wonderful to see the cultural differences in how people work and live. It is much more focused on a better quality of life, rather then getting the job done quickly there.” This approach to life influenced Sonia’s work and after living in Paris for a while, she decided to move back to California where she started her own brand and now resides with her family.

After taking her son to school she starts her work day. She spends half the day writing emails and the other half making the jewelry and looking over production. “I work a lot with custom orders, so everyday I am making something new.  That is my favorite part when I get to create something for someone I know.” Her sources of inspirations are the simplest and most genuine ones, like nature, art, friends, traveling, and culture. She also loves Audrey Hepburn and her jewelry is just like her, timeless. She also loves sculptures. She loves Calder’s work, because of his ability to balance structure. “Jewelry is also something that requires good balance as it hangs on the body”. She’s inspired by Brancusi’s simplicity of forms and shapes. “He is able to capture too much with just simple shapes and objects put together”. Her Fall 2013 collection is actually inspired by him and is called “Bugs and Brancusi”.  

“I wanted to be able to make bug forms on the style of Brancusi. I didn’t want the bug shapes to be so literal, rather, I wanted to use Brancusi’s sense of color and form to capture the organic forms of bugs and botanicals from nature.”

Sonia is a very honest and warm person and loves to have a one-to-one relationship with her clients. She’s always excited to see how someone puts themselves together with her jewelry. Because the pieces are so big, she loves to see the individual wearing them. She actually said that what she likes most about her job is “making something special for someone who really appreciates it…”
